Messrs A. Strange (Auckland) and F. G. Tidswell (Christchurch) are staying at the Dominion. Messrs E. R. Boulton, R. L. White (Christchurch) and J. G. Russell (Wellington) are staying at the Grosvenor. Messrs E. Taylor, E. Holden, C. R. Hart and C. W. Gillies (Christchurch) are included in the latest arrivals at the Grand. The Hon. J. C. Watson, formerly Prime Minister of Australia, who has been on a:i extended visit to the Dominion, returned to Sydney by the Niagara. Messrs R. Stanners, T. L. Wilson, N. McCausland (Christchurch), J. R. Copland (Balclutha) and L. W. Geddes (Dunedin) are registered at the Empire. Guests at the Balmoral include;— Messrs J. Wyn Irwin, L. J. Ryan, Alex Lake, D. R, Leggat (Christchurch), L. S. Churchill, J. Stark, J. H. Williamson and Thos. Neason (Dunedin). Mr Frederic McCallum, who has been producer for the Auckland Little Theatre Society for three seasons, has been appointed to a post with the J. C. Williamson Film Corporation (N.Z.), with headquarters in Wellington. Mr J. D. Lewis, 8.A., of Auckland University College, has been appointed to the staff of King's College, of which he is an old boy. Mr Lewis is a member of the New Zealand University Rugby team which is about to visit Japr.n. The wedding took place quietly in Auckland yesterday of Mr W. G. Wohlmann, Commissioner of Police, and Miss Christine Laura Stone, of Auckland. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. E. D. Patchett at the Epsom Methodist Church. Mr A. P. Thompson, who has been acting-manager of the Commercial Bank of Australia during the absence abroad of Mr E. P. Yaldwyn, left Wellington by the Monowai on Friday on his return to Melbourne, where he will resume his duties of inspector in the bank’s head office. Mr A. E. Jull, of Waipawa. who recently retired from the presidency of t- e New Zealand Counties' Association, was the guest of honour at a dinner tendered by the Wellington branch of the County Clerks’ Association. References were made to the services he had rendered in local body administration over many years, and he was presented with a canteen of fish knives and forks and a silver entree dish. Reference to the long association of the late Dr P. W. Hislop with acclimatisation affairs was made by the chairman of the South Canterbury Council, at its meeting last evening. He said that in his younger days Dr. Hislop had been a keen sportsman and that for many years he had been a member of the Society. A motion of sympathy with the relatives was passed.
