NEW 4YA STATION
OFFICIAL OPENING By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, December 2. The new 4YA high power transmitting plant was officially opened tonight by the Postmaster-General (Hon. Adam Hamilton) who spoke by telephone from Wellington. He stated that the occasion was interesting to him as in all probability it would be his last official act as PostmasterGeneral. Mr Hamilton referred to the progress of radio and drew attention to the manner in which the election results had been made available to listeners so that people in the remotest parts of the country obtained the information as quickly as city dwellers. Mr H. D. Vickery, chairman of the Broadcasting Board, thanked the people of Dunedin' for their patience in listening to an out-of-date transmitter for such a long period. The next step in the Board's coverage plan was the erection of a 60 kilowatt transmitter near Wellington. It was hoped to commence operations on this in about a year’s time.
