CASE DISMISSED
ALLEGED FALSE STATEMENT Telegraph—Press Association PALMERSTON N., December 2. An unusual charge was heard before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., when it was alleged that Andrew Lawson Andrew, a relief worker, of Bunnythorpe, on November 10, wilfully made a false statemc--over the telephone, that the police were required immediately at the corner of Boundary Road and Vogel Street, with intent that the police should act on such false state - ment. Defendant pleaded not guilty. The police stated that at 1 o’efoek in the morning the watchhouse received a message from the hospital that the police were urgently required at the corner mentioned, the message being given by a porter at the request of the defendant, who said he had been asked by another man to ring. A constable proceeded to the spot, but found nothing untoward. The defendant was found “hanging about.” Counsel for the defendant said the facts were admitted, but the defendant did not give a false message wilfully. He had complied with a request from another man, v'ho had been very excited. After hearing the evidence, the Magistrate gave defendant the benefit of the doubt and dismissed the charge.
