FAIRLIE
DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL A meeting of the committee of the Pairlie District High School was held on Monday, Mr H. Carlton presiding. The Education Board wrote that the matter of new woodwork equipment was being gone into. The headmaster reported that in the Primary Department the average number of absentees over the last four weekly period was 12.4. The annual inspection visit had been paid by Messrs Clarke and Hawke but no reports had come to hand. The recent wet weather had rendered the piano unplayable and he requested that repairs be carried out as soon as possible. The term would end on December 19 and if the committee could suggest a suitable date for the concert, preliminary arrangements could be made and tickets printed. Mr Cooper had prepared a sketch plan of the proposed bicycle shed and a rough estimate of the material required. Some filling in and levelling round the schoolhouse was necessary. Appreciation of a generous donation toward the purchase of cricket material was expressed. It was decided on the motion of Mr W. Surridge, seconded by Mr J. A. Fraser, that the school concert be held on December 18, the price for admission to be adults 1/6, children 6d, performers free. A request was received that the school children assist in regard to selling tickets for the Blind Institute concert. It was decided to adhere to a previous minute on the books in regard to the question of children selling tickets. It was decided to grant a sum up to £3 towards the erection of a- bicycle shed for the secondary department of the school. Messrs E. Goodwin and E. Cooper were appointed visitors for November.
