SCHOOL SPORTS
TOTARA VALLEY AND HAZELBURN On Friday last the Totara Valley School competed against Hazelbum School in athletic and novelty events, when a very enjoyable afternoon was spent. The gathering was held at the Valley School in ideal weather. There was also a large number of parents and friends present. After an even contest, the Valley School was successful by 27 points to 20. Results:— Flat Race, boys’ championship: J. Carnegie 1, J. Leary 2. Flat Race, girls’ championship: Phoebe Gould 1, Dorothy Henriksen 2. Three - Legged Race, handicap: Dorothy Henriksen 1, Mary Cleland 2. Potato Race: J. Leary 1, Bobie Carter 2. Flat Race, handicap: Mary Cleland 1, Desmond Driscoll 2. Longer Race, handicap: Olive Shirley 1, Margaret Shirley 2. Three-Legged Race: Dorothy Henriksen 1, J.' Leary 2. Sack Race, handicap: Desmond Driscoll 1, Mary Cleland 2. Potato Race, handicap: Desmond Driscoll 1, Mary Cleland 2. Longer Race: J. Leary 1, J. Carnegie 2. Hop, Step and Jump, handicap: Mary Cleland I, Dorothy Henriksen 2. Sack Race: J. Leary 1, Mary Cleland 2. Relay Race: Hazelbum. Obstacle Race: Irene Driscoll 1, Olive Shirley 2. Hop, Step and Jump: Phoebe Gould 1, Dorothy Henriksen 2. Steeplechase: J. Leary 1, D. Histen 2, At the conclusion of the sports the Hazelbum people were entertained at afternoon tea by the Totara Valley ladies. On behalf of the Hazelbum pupils, T. Oakley congratulated the winners and thanked them for their hospitality. Ray Watkins, the Totara Valley captain, suitably replied, and cheers were called for both sides. Before the departure of the visitors, both schools enjoyed a pleasant game of football The infants were treated to a lolly scramble.
