WAR ON CHURCH
GENERAL GOERING’S ACTIVITIES United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph —Copyright BERLIN, July 18. Accusing a section of the Roman Catholic clergy of systematic political opposition to Nazism, Genere! Goering has instructed the authorities to apply every legal means against the clergy who are allegedly misusing their authority. He objects to the Catholics using the greeting “Hail Heavenly Fuhier," and disapproves of Catholic Youth Associations with initials corresponding with those of Nazi organisations. Grave Allegation. The Berlin correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says: “The secret State police (Gestapo) have been instructed to listen to Roman Catholic sermons. Priests guilty of anti-Nazi uttei'ances will be sent to concentration camps. General Goering declares that scarcely a Sunday passes without the Mass being abused by reading political declarations. The ' Government will allow priests to co-operate in education only provided they unreservedly support Nazism.”
