BEAUTIES AS GEMS Hundreds of men and women caught eir breath when, dazzling with ,000,000 worth of the world’s most agnificent gems, fifteen famous ciety beauties took the floor in a n-minutes’ pageant at Grosvenor ouse, Park Lane, London, says an lglish paper. The pageant was matched by the Duke and Duchess of Cent, who remained at the ball for nore than two hours. The Duchess ms wearing a silk crepe gown in a ovely peach shade with a feather boa o match.

Outstanding in the display was Lady dount Temple, who wore a collection >f emeralds which, for perfection and >eauty, had never been surpassed. The Countess of Inchcape represented learls, and seven women, including tfrs Sweeney, Lady Bridgett Poulett, jady Veronica Hornby, and Lady Paticia Latham, represented damonds. A collection of rubies, of which the najor piece was a necklace valued at ■30,000 was worn by Mrs Oswald Birley, wife of the famous painter.
