HORTICULTURE

TIMARU SOCIETY MEETS The committee of the Timaru Horticultural Society met last night. Present: Mr G. E. Knowles (chairman) Mesdames R. D. King, W. J. Rooney, G. E. Knowles, C. T. Ballantype, Messrs J. Moody, F. E. Duncan, C. H. Johnson, J. Stewart, J. Milligan, H Simmons, C. E. Graham. L. B. Pearson, J. Cleiand, J. W. Hinehev, R. B Hart, W. J. Hogg and W. J. Foote. The chairman said that the Schedule Committee had met to consider the allocation of prize money but it had been found that a suitable scheme could not be evolved unless the resolution at last meeting fixing the limit of the prizes was rescinded. Mr Duncan said that the committee recommended a revised schedule of prize money to provide that the highest prizes be 5/- for first and 3/- for second in all classes in which a cup was won. The next "highest were 3/- for first and 1/6 for second, the next 2/and 1/- and the smallest 1/6 and 1/The amended prize money for the foui shows, with the present amount shown in parentheses, would be as follows' Spring show £lO/5/6 (£l2/17/6); summer show £l2/10/- (£l3/3/-); autumn show £l7/4/- (£2O/4/-); winter show £l4/16/- (£l9/13/6); £54/15/6 (£65/18/-). The report was adopted on the motion of Messrs Duncan and Hinchey, it being further decided that there be no second prize money unless there were three entries and where there was only one entry the entrance fee be refunded. Show dates for the year were fixer! as follow; Spring show, September 24 and 25; summer show. November 27 and 28; autumn show, February 5 and 6; chrysanthemum show (held over). Mr Hinchey considered that it might be advisable to have trade displays at the shows. The chairman explained that the space was available now providing payment was made for it. Mr Foote reported for the membership committee that the present roil stood at 508.
