CLASSIC TENNIS
PLAY IN FRENCH TOURNEY United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph— Copyright PARIS, May 29. The French lawn tennis championships were continued at the Stade de Roland Garros to-day, on heavy, damp courts. The conditions did not suit the Australians, but all showed excellent form. V. B. McGrath gave his best display of the tour and J. H. Crawford was never extended out of his leisurely rhythm. R. Menzel, of Czecho-Slovakia, proved too strong for A. K. Quist, of Australia, on a court which was not to the Australian's liking. Menzel attacked furiously. Both players gave delightful exhibitions. H. C. Hopman put up a noteworthy performance in vanquishing the South African, N. G. Farquharson in straight sets. It was a battle of volleyers in which Hopman was invariably the quicker. The following are the results: MEN’S SINGLES. Third Round. J. H. Crawford (Australia) beat Pallada (Italy), 0-1, 0-3, 6-4. H. C. Hopman (Australia) beat N. G. Farquharson (South Africa), 6-2, 6-3, 6-1. A. Merlin (France) beat Malaeeak, 6-2, 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Caska (Czecho-Slovakia), beat Henkel (Holland), 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2. M. Bernard (France) beat Hines (U.S.A.), 3-6, 8-6, 6-3, 6-4. G. de Stefani (Italy) beat Feret (France), 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, 7-5. A. Quist (Australia) beat Jamain (France), 6-2, 6-4, 6-4. R.
