SECESSION ISSUE

DISSATISFACTION IN WEST Australia United Press Association—By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, May 29. The West Australian delegation supporting secession of the State from the Commonwealth, has issued a statement expressing disappointment at the Parliamentary Joint Committee’s report, which was against the petition being allowed to proceed. The delegation fears that the adoption of the report will occasion some resentment in Western Australia. The only inference to be drawn from the report is that no matter what injury and injustice is inflicted, or what redress is attempted, no action can be taken by the Imperial Parliament. The delegation was prepared to demonstrate that the injuries were not the natural consequences of the State’s entry into the federation, but Federal abuses of the constitution, the final consequences of Which would be the impoverishment of many Western Australian industries, the destruction of prosperity and the impeding of the State’s development. Western Australia’s plea was that the Commonwealth’s violation of the 1900 Act had destroyed her sovereign rights. “We strongly feel that the Imperial Parliament should not adopt the report but, should receive the petition and investigate the serious indictments against the Commonwealth, otherwise any future action must be decided by the Western Australian people.”
