The sum of £2 was passed towards the expenses of the conference of Referee’s Associations from Timaru, Oamaru and Waimate last year. Mr Clarke said that it was hoped to hold a similar conference at Waimate on Monday next, and it was decided that ! as many members as possible should attend. Mcßae spoke in similar vein and referred to the sights he had seen at Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. Two kowhai trees were planted to commemorate the occasion, one by Mr McRae on behalf of the school and district and one by Mrs Verity representing the Ikawai Women’s Institute. The children gave exhibitions of folk dancing and Swedish drill, and each child was presented with a jubilee book. Afternoon tea served by the ladies’ committee brought the gathering to a close. SALE OF CLYDESDALES At the annual general meeting of the Waimate A. and P. Association, Mr J. H. Mitchell said that considerable inconvenience had been caused to members of the Clydesdales Society through the society’s office being in the North Island, while the majority of the business was in the South Island. Moreover, the society made it a rule that Clydesdales purchased from members of the society could not be exported unless the vendor was free from the society’s debt. This threw any debt on the part of the vendor on to the purchaser, an entirely anomalous position. He stated that a number of A. and P. Associations were taking the matter up to correct a number of irregularities in the Clydesdale Society’s methods of working, and said he thought that the Waimate Association might also take the matter up. A conference would be held at the Dunedin Show, and Mr Mitchell suggested that that Association elect a delegate to the conference. The president, Mr F. Brown, was elected delegate with the proviso that a substitute should be elected in the event of Mr Brown’s being unable to attend. Procters, the Premier Opticians Christchurch, will be making the next professional visit to Waimate. on Saturday, 29th June, and may be consulted on all defects of eyesight at the Roya) Hotel on that date
