ACQUITTED

CHARGES AGAINST TEACHER By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, May 11. Without retiring, the jury in the case of Herbert John Craig Parker, a teacher in the Petone Central School, returned a verdict of not guilty on eight charges of indecent assault on girl pupils in February last. sriven by eight girls of alleged acts, which they stated occurred mainly during reading lessons, and u— and marking of lessons. Five other girls, who had been in Parker’s class the previous year, also gave evidence. The defence was a complete denial. The headmaster, Robert Cole, said the statements of some of the witnesses were unreliable. He was thoroughly convinced the charges were not true. Giving the verdict, the foreman said the jury was unanimously of the opinion that Parker was innocent.
