ORARI BRIDGE

JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS In order to commemorate the King's Silver Jubilee in a fitting manner, the parents and friends of the pupils attending the Orari Bridge School gathered together on Friday afternoon. The children were assembled and after singing the National Anthem, Canon J. F. Coursey, of Geraldine, addressed them on loyalty, the meaning of Jubilee and the debt of gratitude we owed the King for the interest he took in all parts of his kingdom however remote. For those who had not been fortunate to hear the King’s message to the children over the wireless, this was read aloud. Each child attending the school was then presented with a souvenir booklet provided by the Education Board. A vote of thanks was accorded Canon Coursey who had to leave early as he was to give a similar address to the children of the Woodbury School. The New Zealand National Anthem was then sung, after which afternoon tea provided by the ladies of the district, was handed round. SOCIAL EVENING The third of a series of fortnightly socials was held in the Orari Bridge Hall recently. Cards were played, Mrs Templeton and Mrs Cullen having to play off for the lady’s prize, Mrs Templeton proving the winner. The men's prize was won by Mr Templeton.
