OBIE WALKER DEFEATS COOK United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, May 8. In a professional boxing match, Obie Walker easily out-pointed George Cook, but despite the reported "no knock-out, no pay” threat to the negro, Cook, though battered and bleeding, was still on his feet at the final gong. The fight was a fiasco from the viewpoint of attendance, a crowd of only 4000 occupying 100,000 open-air seats. Walker forced Cook to the ropes in the third round and floored him for the count of six. Walker nearly ended the fight in the sixth round, when he had the Australian staggering and bleeding from the nose, but the gong saved him. Cook kept attacking despite continual battering. “The Daily Mail” says: “Cook is a valiant loser. Walker, reputed to be a black tornado, turned out to be a mild breeze. He possessed size and tremendous power but was a pugilistic infant in ringcraft. Walker fought grinning triumphanty, baring his teeth savagely, and overcoming Cook’s guard by sheer strength. Cook, who is 14st, was 121 b lighter than his opponent.” The “News-Chronicle” says that Walker will receive only training and travelling expenses, owing to his failure to secure a knock-out.
