CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW
CONCLUDING DAY Not for many years has a display of blooms aroused so much public interest as that which was seen at the Timaru Horticultural Society’s Chrysanthemum Show which concluded in the Bay Hall yesterday. The attendance during both days was large, many braving the elements yesterday afternoon and last night to view an exhibition of which so much had been heard. At the evening session the president (Mr Geo. Bowker) reviewed the Society’s year, which he said had been most successful. He thanked the exhibitors for their support at the four shows and the public for their continued interest. In Timaru, he said, they had some very fine horticulturists, and recent successes at Christchurch and Dunedin proved that members of the Society could grow chrysanthemums of a quality equal to anything in the Dominion. Competition at the shows was now becoming very keen and he hoped that exhibitors and the public would continue to support the Society in its endeavours to do its utmost in the interests of horticulture in the town. Mrs Bowker then presented the Mrs Wm. C. Burns challenge cup to Mr T. Segar, and certificates of merit to those who had exhibited the premier blooms at the show.
