THE TIMARU MAYORAL CONTEST
To the Editor of “ The Timaru Herald ” Sir, —The pith of “West End’s” rather petty letter in your issue this morning is, “was Mr Koller O.K.ed by the Labour Representation Committee?” The answer is no! for the simple reason that the Labour Representation Committee has no standing in the matter. The plain facts are the Labour Representation Committee for financial reasons which concern only the Labour Representation Committee and its -affiliated bodies, of which the Timaru branch of the Labour Party is one, decided not to contest the municipal elections, voluntarily sought and obtained the consent of the National Executive to delegate its authority and powers in this matter to the Timaru branch, giving an assurance by unanimous re- [ solution to do all in its power to help the branch in the contest.—l am., etc., M. E. HILTON, j Honorary Secretary Timaru Branch New Zealand Labour Party. | Timaru, May 2. j P.S.—Since -the above was written, the following telegram has been received from Mr Walter Nash, National President: “On behalf of the National Executive I desire to convey to you and your colleagues who are contesting local body elections on behalf of the Labour Party sincere good wishes for success on Wednesday next.”
