WEDDINGS

SMYTHE—BALLANTYNE The wedding took place at St. Peter’s Church, Upper Riccarton, ol Marjorie Allott Ballantyne, second daughter of Mr and Mrs R. Ballantyne, of Kaikoura. to Ernest Blair Smythe. only son of Mr and Mrs H. B. Smythe. of Timaru. The Rev. H. T. York officiated and Mr Turner assisted as organist. The artistic decorations in the church were of chrysanthemums mostly in white and rich tawny colouring. The bride was escorted by her father, and her three maids. Miss Janet Fleming, Blair Smythe, sister of the bridegroom, and Mollie Pratt, were alike in frocks of ice-blue crinkle crepe, strikingly relieved with tangerine velvet. Mr Owen Pratt acted as best man, and Messrs Jack Ballantyne, brother of the bride, and Lindsay Smith were groomsmen. The bride had chosen her gown in creamy tinted lace over satin, designed with a charming simplicity, and with a slight train flowing from the back panel in the skirt. Cowl neck and sleeves were a softening feature, with crystal buttons gleaming at the neck, and on the waistline where they indicated the, unusual joining of the skirt to the bodice. Her long veil fell from a cap of lace like that in her frock, held on either side of the head with orange blossom. She carried a beautiful white bridal bouquet. The bridesmaid frocks were made with cowl necklines and plaited belts at the waist, and the tangerine colour was introduced in velvet buttons down the short sleeves and the back of the bodices, and also in the velvet shoes the maids wore and the bouquets they carried. Their picture hats were of cream straw, with blue velvet ribbon trimming, and touches of tangerine velvet in the front. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at “Dulee Domum Lodge,” Upper Riccarton, the home of Mr and Mrs R. Fleming. Mrs Ballantyne, the bride’s mother, who was assisted by Mrs Flerping in the entertainment of her guests, wore a smart ensemble of black and white patterned marocain, the frock being finished with a red velvet rose at the shoulder. Her hat was of black velvet with a white bird mount, and she carried red flowers. Mrs Fleming’s frock of wine red diagonal georgette showed touches of fawn in contrast and was worn with a wine velour hat. Her bouquet was of flowers in biscuit shadings. Beforir leaving on -the wedding trip the bride donned a becoming frock of royal blue crinkle crepe with grey buttons as trimming, and her felt hat was blue to match. A musquash fur coat completed her outfit.
