Dominion Meteorologist General situation: A very deep depression is crossing the Dominion, its centre being to the south. Pressure has risen rapidly over Eastern Australia. Winds: Moderate to strong northerly winds reaching gale force in places, but a change to southerly gales setting in soon in the south, becoming general in about 24 hours. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough on the West Coast and about Cook Strait, elsewhere moderate, later becoming rough generally. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong southerly winds to gales and rough seas. Weather: Cloudy to overcast with rain in most districts, snow on the highlands and hail in places; temperatures becoming cold. Mr s*. L. Wooles Wind: Southerly strong to gale. Weather: Cold, showery at times; snow in the Mackenzie Country. Conditions in Timaru After a frost of 2.8 degrees yesterday morning the day was bright and sunny, although a keen southerly breeze made conditions chilly. Late last night a strong nor’-west wind sprang up.
