AIRCRAFT INSPECTOR
APPLICATIONS INVITED By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, April 29. With the advent of air transport companies and the operation of fleets of aircraft over regular routes, the task of carrying out the inspections prescribed by the regulations will be far too great to be performed by members of the New Zealand Permanent Air Force as at present, and with this in mind the department has decided to appoint an aircraft inspector to undertake this work. In both England and Australia staffs of aircraft Inspectors are engaged, but this will be the first appointment of its kind made in New Zealand. The position has been advertised in British flying journals and the time for application has now expired.
The position is a responsible one, and in Britain carries a salary of £6OO a year. An aircraft inspector’s duties comprise the inspection of aircraft, the issue of certificates of airworthiness and their renewal, the supervision of the manufacture, repair and maintenance of aircraft, the examining of applicants for a ground engineers license and finally inquiring into accidents. The advertisement of the New Zealand position offers a salary of £350 a year to the successful applicant, presumably in New Zealand currency.
