THOSE OLD POPPIES
To the Editor of “ The Timaru Herald ” Sir, —Anzac Day saw many thousands standing round the monuments and singing “Lest We Forget.” Some people were there, gaily flaunting old poppies. It seems contemptible, but it is true nevertheless. Surely the Returned Soldiers’ Association, or whoever has charge of these things, could have a more distinctive poppy every year. What about a pink poppy next year? Or if it must be red, could not some piece of foliage be attached which would make it definitely of the moment? Will the wearers of these old poppies, who grudge a shilling to such a worthy cause, advise their sons to stay at home and wave the flags if ever there is another war?—which God forbid.—l am, etc., SINON. South Canterbury.
