VERDICT OF SUICIDE

GRAFTON BRIDGE VICTIM By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, April 2. A verdict of suicide was returned by Mr W. R. McKean, Coroner, at the inquest into the death of Simon Hazelton, a single man, aged 43. who jumped from the Grafton Bridge last Friday. Kelvin Mack, a bus driver, who was in charge of the hospital motor bus which proceeded over the Grafton bridge about 7.15 a.m., said he noticed a man just starting to slide over the parapet of the bridge about 20 yards from the hospital end. Witness stopped his vehicle and, on looking over the bridge, could see the body on the grass below the structure. Evidence was also given that Hazelton had been complaining about his health for some time. He had said he could not sleep very well and appeared to be depressed. He recently received bad news concerning his brother who lived in Australia, and this appeared to worry him. He was a returned soldier and had served with the Australian Forces.
