MR COATES GOING TO LONDON EARLY DEPARTURE By Telegraph— Pres? Association WELLINGTON, April 2. In view of his departure on April 13 or 16 for London to take part in the meat discussions. Mr Coates and Mrs Coates were entertained at supper by members of the Coalition Party tonight. On behalf of the Party the Rt. Hon. Sir Francis Bell presented Mr Coates with a suitably inscribed fountain pen. He paid a tribute to the statesmanlike qualities possessed by Mr Coates, who was going Home on a ver> important mission. While he did not always agree with Mr Coates’ views, he could not fail to appreciate his outstanding qualities as a leader, and. above all, as a man. Others who spoke were Messrs D. Skyes, C. H. Clinkard and Tau Henare. In reply, Mr Coates expressed his appreciation of the sentiments expressed He had felt a doubt whether he should leave New Zealand at the present juncture, but the importance of the discussions to take place had indicated what his duty was. He had a full realisation of the difficulties of the task Mr Forbes and he had to undertake, and at all times they would endeavour to work in the best interests of the Dominion. He expressed a hope that members of the Coalition would continue to work harmoniously together, and that it would be possible to reach a common understanding on outstanding problems. Cheers were given for Mr Coates and Mrs Coates.
