EIGHTH AUSTRALIAN EVENT United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received April 1, 11 p.m.) MELBOURNE, April 1. The eighth Australian Grand Prix over a course of 200 miles, was won by L. Murphy, driving an M.G.P. model. W. B. Thompson, with a supercharged M. Special, was second, and L. Jennings with an M.G. Special, was third. Murphy won by a quarter of a mile. There were eighteen competitors. Murphy, whose handicap was 29min 27sec, completed the course in 3hrs 2min 28sec. Thompson, who was on scratch, took 2hrs 33min 28sec. Jennings, with a handicap of 15min 30sec took 2hrs 53min 34sec. Thompson -at times exceeded 110 miles an hour, occasionally averaging 83 miles an hour for a lap.
