PLEASANT POINT SALE FAT LAMBS EASIER Large yardings were forward for the sale at Pleasant Point which was held yesterday. Fat cattle.—About 70 head were forward the quality being only moderate. The sale was a dragging one with prices about on a par with last week’s market. The range was: Fat steers (best) £7/2/6 to £B/2/6, fat steers (medium) £4/2/6 to £6/17/6, fat cows (best) £4 to £5/12/6, fat cows (light) £2 to £3/2/6, heifers (best) £4/2/6 to £5/12/6, fat heifers (light) £2/2/6 to £3/7/6. Store and dairy cattle.—Only a few pens were forward the sale being a dragging one. Prices were: Bulls 20/to 33/-, empty cows 10/- to 30/-, springing heifers to £4/12/6, cows in profit to £3/15/-. Pigs.—About 30 head were offered. Good stores sold well but on the other hand weaners would only sell at low values. Prices were: Weaners 6/- to 10/-, slips 10/- to 14/-, good stores to 27/-. Fat lambs.—More than 2500 lambs were offered of which only 1600 were sold at auction, the remainder going to the freezing works to be killed at per pound. It is not often that so many lots are passed at auction, but farmers did not care to accept the lowered schedule price offered by exporters. The range was best lambs 20/- to 22/4, medium 16/4 to 12/9. Fat sheep.—Two full races of fat ewes and wethers were placed before buyers and both exporters and butchers competed keenly for lots suitable for their requirements. The sale was slightly better than late rates. Sales were: Best fat wethers 23/- to 26/-, medium fat wethers 20/- to 22/6, best fat ewes 14/9 to 17/1, exporters ewes 11/- to 13/6. Store sheep. —A large yarding of ewes was forward, the quality being about the poorest seen at the yards for some years, hardly one line of outstanding quality being in evidence. Buyers were keen and values showed no sign of easing. Sales made were: Good rape lambs 15/3 to 15/10, good threequarterbred ewe lambs 15/- to 16/6, medium threequarterbred ewe lambs 12/6 to 13/9, threequarterbred 2-tooth ewes best to 29/5, threquarter-bred 2-tooth ewes medium 23/- to 25/6, S.M. three-quarter-bred ewes 16/- to 18/-, full and failing mouth X-bred ewes to 15/9, 2,4, 6 and 8-tooth X-bred ewes to 18/4.
