WOMEN’S DIVISION

SOUTHBURN BRANCH At the monthly meeting of the Southburn branch of the W.D.F.U. held in the school, Mrs A. Ward presided over a good attendance of members. An apology was received from Mrs Bell. It was decided to make a donation of £2 to the Community Chest. Mesdames Chamberlain, A. Ward and B. Evans, who attended the conference held recently at Ashburton, gave a very interesting description of the proceedings. The remits and decisions were explained, and the delegates were accorded a vote of thanks. Competitions resulted as follows: Flower, Mrs Caswell 1, Mrs Robt. Parry 2, Mrs T. Chamberlain 3. Jar of fruit, Mrs Robt. Parry 1, Mrs A. Ward 2, Miss A. Gibson 3. The third competition, suggestions for a six months programme, was held over till next meeting to enable more members to enter. Mrs Chamberlain and Miss Chamberlain were hostesses for the afternoon.
