BASKETBALL
SOUTH CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION
The South Canterbury Basketball Association held its final meeting of the 1934 season on Friday evening. Present: Mr J. C. Hayhurst (presiding), Mesdames Hayhurst and H. Hoskins, Misses H. K. Lovell-Smith, J. Laird, A. Malthus, A. Brooks and Anna Malthus and Mr H. F. Christie.
The president reported that the annual dinner had been held in the Bay tearooms and had been largely attended.
The New Zealand Association advised that South Canterbury would be eligible for representation by one delegate at the inaugural meeting of the New Zealand Basketball Referees’ Association at Wellington at Easter. Mrs Hayhurst was appointed to represent the Association.
The New Zealand Association also advised that the Dominion President would be visiting Associations desiring a visit during the coming season. It was decided to invite Mrs Muir to visit South Canterbury.
The question of uniformity in the naming of grades, held over from the last meeting, was considered and it was decided to advise sub-associations that in future the grades in competitions throughout South Canterbury are to be known as first grade, second grade, third grade. It was decided that the annual meeting be held on April 26 and that sub-
associations be advised to forward copies of their annual reports and balance-sheets in time for the meeting. The treasurer (Miss Brooks) reported that the Association would close the season with a credit in both the travelling fund and general accounts. It was decided to vote £l/1/- to the Y.W.C.A. for the use of a room for meetings
