WOMEN’S DIVISION

FAIRLIE BRANCH At the monthly meeting of the Fairlie branch of the W.D.F.U., Mrs Moran presided over a good attendance of members. Motions of sympathy were passed with Mrs Harper, Mrs McConnell and members of the Black family. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Quill and Miss Macdonald. Congratulations were extended to Mrs Barnes who had recently been appointed president of the local branch of the Women’s Institute. Attention was drawn to a remit which had been passed at the recent conference, “that members joining after the end of October be counted as financial for the forthcoming year.” It was decided to enter for Mr BBurnett’s table competition at the Fairlie show. Dr Loughnan gave an interesting talk on milk. He emphasised the point that by drinking more milk the children of New Zealand would greatly benefit in health; and it would also be a means of using up more of the surplus products of dairy farmers. The remainder of the evening took the form of a concert. Mrs Loughnan contributed pianoforte solos, Mrs Talbot songs and Misses Isitt and Meldrum acted a charade. Mrs Moran moved a vote of thanks to Dr Loughnan and to the ladies who had provided the entertainment. Supper brought a very happy evening to a close, the hostesses being Mesdames Taylor, Toomey and R. Wareing.
