THE WEATHER
Dominion Meteorologist General situation: A depression is crossing New Zealand to-day while an anticyclone of slight intensity covers the Western Tasman Sea. Wind: Moderate to strong northwesterly to westerly of gale force in places south of Cape Egmont and Castlepoint, backing shortly to southerly. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough on the West Coast and off shore south of Castlepoint, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong westerly winds, backing temporarily soon to south-westerly and decreasing, seas rought, but moderating. Weather: Changeable and squally rain at times in most districts, and becoming cooler; conditions improving to-morrow, however, on the west coast of the South Island. Conditions in Timaru As was forecasted, rain fell in Timaru yesterday. The weather in the morning was showery, but at 3 o’clock heavy rain set in and fell for some time. Conditions improved somewhat in the early evening, although the sky remained overcast.
