OLD CHUTNEY SOFTENED

After chutney has been kept in the store cupboard for a long time it is inclined to become too solid. This defect can be remedied easily. Empty the pickle into a saucepan and stir in a

little vinegar to make it soft. Heat the chutney slowly, taking care to stir it continually. Do not bring to boiling point; merely heat sufficiently to melt the sugar. Just enough vinegar should be added to bring the chutney back to its original consistency.

STAINS ON GLOVES Stains on gloves are frequently incurred through chocolates melting in a hot atmosphere such as a picturehouse or theatre. The best way to treat the stains is to rub them gently with powdered borax. If the material of which the gloves are made is washable, they should then be washed. If not, brush off the borax thoroughly and, if made of leather, rub with a good leather cream.
