BRITISH REGULATIONS
| TESTS FOR MOTORISTS New motorists tested by the Ministry j of Transport examiners and granted a provisional driving licence will have to carry a red letter “L” on a white I ground at the front or rear of their j cars. This is one of the main features in Mr Hore-Belisha’s final regulations for testing drivers who have taken out licences since April 1 last. Another regulation is that a driver “ploughed” on his first test can be examined again in a month instead of two months, as was originally proposed. To pass the main parts of the test a driver must— Be able to start the engine of the vehicle; Move away straight ahead or at an angle, overtake; Turn right-hand and left-hand cor- ; ners; Stop in an emergency or normally; j Reverse and enter a limited opening; Cause a car to face in the opposite j direction by the use of forward and 1 reverse gears. Drivers must apply for a test to the | supervising examiner for the traffic | area in which he resides, the test fee \ will be 7s 6d. and the motorist must | 1 provide the car. ■ 1
