EXTREME PENALTY
DEATH SENTENCE IN SYDNEY United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received March 21, 10.40 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 21. In the Criminal Court at Sydney, James Lucas (aged 46) was sentenced to death for maliciously wounding Constable Arthurson with intent to murder, at Bargo, near Goulburn on January 6. Constable Arthurson, who has now almost recovered from bullet wounds, disturbed two men who were robbing a shop. He challenged them to put up their hands, upon which he was shot, allegedly by Lucas who was arrested later.
