REQUESTS FOR GRANTS
MINISTER SYMPATHETIC By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, March 21. A request that the Government should reinstate grants to the Workers’” Educational Association was made to the Hon. S. G. Smith by a deputation from the Dominion Council of the Association. Mr Smith, replying, said he had always been sympathetic with the movement. The cancellation of the grants was a matter of Government policy. The question of restoration was now before the Government, and the association would be advised at the earliest possible moment of the Cabinet’s decision. A second deputation to the Minister was one from the Wellington School Committees Federation for increased capitation grants. Mr Smith said that he desired to do the best possible for all the children of New Zealand, but was hampered by lack of funds. He desired to go into the whole matter and to discuss details with the Wellington Education Board.
