SAVILE CUP TOURNEY By Telegraph Presp Association CAMBRIDGE. March 20. The Savile Cup polo tournament, in which 20 teams, representing the Hawke's Bay, Rangitikei, Te Awamuta, Matangi, Matawata, and Cambridge Clubs, are taking part, opened at Cambridge this morning in glorious weather. The ground is in good condition, but slightly holding after rain. In conjunction with the Saville Cup, handicap and junior cups are also being contested, ten teams having entered in the former and six in the latter. Junior Cup The first match for the junior cup resulted—Matangi B. (C. Bryant. E. Fergusson, R. Ranstead and R. Hinton) 9; Matamata B. (J. Elliott, E. Given, L. Moore, F. Klaus) 4. For Matangi R. Ranstead 5, Bryant and Fergusson 2, were the scorers. Eliot 2, Klaus 1, and Given 1 scored for Matamata. The more seasoned Matangi players proved their superiority in the con* eluding stages of the match. Matamata A (R. C. Morgan. P. Thirlwall. E. Johnston, F. Malsy) 8, defeated Cambridge B (R. Peake, R. Townend, R. Hannon, R. S. Peake) 1. Cambridge (R. Nolan, G. Vosper, K. Reake. S. Peake) defeated Te Awamutu (Len Kay. Lyall Kay, H. Kay, D. Kay) by 7 goals to 3. The game was fast and even, but more accurate hitting won the game for Cambridge. Savile Cup. Matangi (G. M. Ranstad, G. Peake, R. Townsend, M. Dev. Chitty) defeated Hawke’s Bay (J. Lyons, J. A. Gatenby, N. M. Campbell, R. L. Levin), by 9 goals to 5. Brilliant polo was witnessed in this game. Matangi early assumed control and led 5-3 at half time. Cambridge meets Matangi in the final on Saturday.
