SLANDER ACTION

DAMAGES AWARDED By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, March 20. A dispute between two women over the running of euchre tournaments, in aid of the Christchurch Toy Dog and Cat Club, had a sequel in the Civil Court this morning. Mrs Mary Priest, honorary secretary of the club, claimed from Mrs F. Vincent, a total of £ls damages. She alleged that Mrs Vincent falsely and maliciously used concerning plaintiff the words: “I know all about your character, and if I told the people what I know of your character they would never come back to this hall again,” further that she referred to plaintiff as one of the “scum of the earth,” and lastly that Mrs Vincent flicked plaintiff in the face with a pair of gloves. After hearing evidence, Mr H. P. Lawry gave judgment for plaintiff for £7 and costs.
