The House of Bishops at a meeting in Sydney, announced the election of the Archbishop of Perth, Dr. Henry Frewen le Fanu, as Primate of the Church of England in Australia.

The official statement set forth that “the issue from the beginning was the relative importance of the traditional location of the Primacy in Sydney and the value of the long experience of Australian conditions and problems of the Archbishop of Perth.” The House of Bishops therefore decided to elect Archbishop le Fanu, who has been acting as Primate since the death of the late Archbishop Sydney,
