INCREASED LOCAL DEMAND REQUIRED

CANBERRA, March 12,
The Wheat Commission’s recommendations, which were before the Federal Ministerial Party to-day, suggest that immediate action should be taken to create a home consumption price for wheat and a compulsory marketing scheme. The home consumption price should be fifinanced by the excise duty on flour. This procedure is already in operation. Harvest Boards to administer marketing and the home consumption price are recommended by the Commission, which also suggests that groups of farmers should be assisted to obtain machinery and helped to reduce overhead costs. The Commission’s report will come before the Australian Agricultural Council in April.
