Despondent because he learned that his wife had obtained a divorce Regis Londeau Modee, a prisoner in the gaol at Puydedome, became desperate when the custody of the children was awarded to the wife instead of his mother as he hoped. He ended a seven years’ sentence by plunging head first into a copper in which 40 gallons of skilly was boiling for the convicts’ dinner.
