The Kini was delayed in Wellington, and she is now due to-morrow with coal from the West Coast. She is to proceed to Oamaru and is due to return on Friday to load for Welling-

ton, Nelson, New Plymouth and Westport. The Wainui is set down to arrive to-morrow from Oamaru. She is to take Wellington, Napier and Gisborne cargo. Waitaki's New Service The Waitaki left Auckland on Thursday for Sydney and Newcastle to load for South Island ports. Afterwards she will complete loading at Sydney and Hobart. She will maintain the Sydney-South Island service in conjunction with the Waikouaiti until further notice. Wireless From Rotorua A wireless message received by the New Zealand Shipping Company from the Rotorua states that the vessel is expected to arrive at Wellington at 7 a.m. to-morrow from London. The Rotorua, after landing passengers and mails at Wellington, will sail for Port Chalmers, where she Is due next Thursday to discharge part of her Home cargo. Vessels In Ballast The Shaw, Savill and Albion motor ship Waiwera and the Federal Line steamer Hertford are reported to have left London for New Zealand in ballast. They are due in New Zealand toward the end of February. Vessels Lost and Scrapped Returns prepared by “Lloyd’s Register of Shipping” show that the gross reduction to the mercantile marine of the world from all causes during the quarter ended June 30 was represented by 208 vessels, of 578,649 tons gross, of which 43 were British and 165 foreign. Of this shipping 51 vessels, of 69,561 tons gross, were lost in consequence of casualty or stress of weather, seven being British and 44 foreign. One hundred and fifty-seven vessels, of 509,088 tons gross, were broken up, condemned, or lost otherwise than in consequence of casualty or Stress of weather, of which 36 were British and 121 foreign.

Personal Mr O. H. Diliner has replaced Mr J. E. Hamer as chief engineer on the Tamahine. Mr L. F, Blomfield has joined the Waimarino as chief engineer, relieving Mr W. S. Hale. Captain F. R.
