Sir Maurice Hankey, Secretary of the Committee of Imperial Defence, arrived at Glasgow from the liner Duchess of Bedford. Sir Maurice told a reporter that he would neither deny nor confirm the report that he was advocating compulsory military training and ten years reorganisation of the Australian defences. Another reporter says that Sir Maurice told him: “I will not deny it completely.”
