BRAEMAR SPORTS SUCCESSFUL GATHERING The annual “Braemar" gathering was held at “Braemar,” the homestead of the president of the Tasman Valley Association, Mr Geo. Murray, under ideal conditions. The attendance was the biggest on record, more than 300 persons being present. When it is realised that there are only two homesteads within ten miles of “Braemar” it speaks volumes for the growing popularity of this sports gathering when so many people travel such great distances to be present. The presence of the Mackenzie Highland Pipe Band was an innovation, Chieftain K. Anderson brought the band from Fairlie, and under Drum Major B. Slow, it gave much appreciated selections during the afternoon. The Pipe Band headed the parade of prize winners at the conclusion of the sports when the prizes were presented by Mrs R. P. Beauchamp. The picturesque homestead of “Braemar.” overlooking the banks of the swiftly flowing Tasman River with Lake Pukaki glistening to the south and the snow-clad peaks and glaciers of Mr Cook and Mt Sefton to the north made an ideal setting for such a gathering. The committee in charge is to be congatulated on the efficient way in which the long and varied programme of events was gone through and special mention Is necessary of the work of the secretary, Mr Jack Cassie, to whose enthusiasm, is due the success of the sports.
