WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

CLAREMONT Instead of the usual meeting the Claremont Women’s Institute held a fancy dress Christmas party for the children when a very happy time was spent. There was a good attendance of members, friends and children. The school and Christmas tree had been very prettily decorated by the junior members. The evening was spent with folk dancing and singing by the children, interspersed with dancing for all. A treasure hunt was greatly enjoyed by the children. At 11.30 a fairy princess appeared and presented each child with a packet of sweets from the Christmas tree. Votes of thanks were accorded to Mr and Mrs McFedries and to the junior members for the way they had w T orked to make the party a success. The competitions resulted—Roses. 6 blooms, Mrs Talbot 1, Miss Armstrong 2. Mrs Armstrong 3. Madeira cake. Miss Selbie 1. Miss Greig 2. Miss Armstrong 3. Christmas gift to the value of 1/6, Miss Dunnill and Miss Selbie 1, Miss Seyb and Miss Armstrong 2, Miss McConnell 3. The premier bloom was won by Mrs Armstrong with a Canterbury Bell. The prizes given by Mrs Armstrong for the junior members gaining most points from June to December, were won by Miss Selbie (32 points), and Miss Seyb (31 points).
