THE WEATHER
Dominion Meteorologist General Situation—An anti-cyclone of moderate intensity covers New Zealand to-day. Pressure is falling over the Tasman Sea and eastern Australia. Winds—North-east to north predominating, light to moderate but freshening gradually.* Seas (New Zealand waters) —Smooth to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea.—Light to moderate and variable winds with northeasterlies predominating and later freshening, seas smooth to moderate. Weather.—For most part fine and warm to hot, but isolated local showers are possible with thunder in places. Mr F. L. Wooles. Wind—Moderate to fresh north-east to northerly. Weather—Continue fair and very warm. Outlook for week ending December 24—Wind mainly easterly to northerly; weather mainly fair and warm during the period, but inclined to become unsettled in the latter part. Conditions in Timaru The weather in Timaru yesterday morning early was dull and overcast, but by midday conditions had brightened considerably, the afternoon being hot. A thunderstorm appeared likely to break about 6 o’clock, but travelled round the back country.
