BAY HALL ADDITIONS

ACCOUNT QUESTIONED In a letter to* the Timaru Borough Council regarding the cost of the recent additions to Caroline Bay Hall, the Caroline Bay Association, which received a detailed statement from the Council, explained that after consulting the architect it was contended that the following items were not chargeable to the Association:—Extras £39 Is 6d including an amount of £29 11s 3d for strengthening the roof, which was a maintenance charge; electric installation £B4 3s 3d. (Amount certified to by architect as chargeable £23). Set of six trestles and tables £l4 15s (maintenance charge). The total amount of the alterations, which the Association recognised should be as follows: —Contract £BSB 15s, extras £9 10s 3d. electric installation £23. architect £64 2s sd, drain £ll 0s Id, path £5 10s lOd, windows, etc. £1 15s Id. a total of £973 13s Bd. Less a cheque for £265 and the Rhodes Bequest of £315 7s sd. the total was £393 6s. from this amount was to be deducted the percentage paid to the Council by Mr Lumby for last season, £7l 15s Bd, which had not been credited to the account as was arranged when the deputation from the Association discussed the whole question of the Bay Hall, with the Council in February last, the Council agreeing that the whole of this percentage was to go towards the payment of the hall additions. When this amount was credited to the hall account the balance would stand at £321 10s 4d, and in accordance with the resolution of the Association it was recommended that this year’s interest from the Rhodes fund together with the percentage from Mr Lumby’s amusement devices, be used to liquidate the balance. The letter was considered by the Works Committee of the Council, and it was recommended that it be left to the Mayor (Mr T. W. Satterthwaite) the chairman of the Works Committee (Councillor W. H. Hall) and the chairman of the Finance Committee (Councillor H. J. Mathers) to deal with.
