CONCERT FOR SCHOOL FUNDS

GOOD SUM RAISED There was a record attendance at a concert given by the pupils of the Hilton School, assisted by the Women’s Institute. The proceeds were in aid of the School and Dental Clinic funds which benefited by £ls. The Women’s Institute provided a sweets and work stall at which brisk business was carried on throughout the evening. A competition for a cushion was won by Mr .Walter Johnson and one for a Christmas cake by Miss Mina Hewson. At the conclusion of the concert, the chairman of the School Committee (Mr E. O. Winmill), thanked the teachers (Misses W. Hewson and Hall), for training the children who had performed remarkably well. He also thanked the Women’s Institute for its assistance, mentioning especially the president (Miss Scott), and the past president (Mrs Brosnahan), both of whom, as members of the local Institute, had always assisted the School Committee to raise funds. A vote of thanks was also passed to the singers and to all who had assisted. Miss Hewson, in returning thanks to the Committee, said that the teachers looked upon the training of the children for the school concert, as one of their most pleasant duties. She then moved a vote of thanks to Miss M. Wilkes who had acted as accompaniste for the children’s items, and called on the children to give her a round of cheers.
