THE CABINET

MR S. G. SMITH TO FILL VACANCY Bj Telegraph— Press Association WELLINGTON, November 19. The vacancy in the Cabinet as a result of the recent resignation of Sir Apirana Ngata will be filled at an early date by the appointment of Mr S. G. Smith, M.P. for New Plymouth. In order that the Hon. R. Masters, M.L.C., may devote all his time to trade questions, it is possible that he will relinquish the portfolio of Education and that this will be taken over by Mr Smith. Mr Smith, who was a Minister in the Forbes Administration before the formation of the Coalition in 1931, has had long experience of educational affairs as a member of the Taranaki Education Board, of which he is chairman.
