RIFLE SHOOTING
TIMARU DEFENCE CLUB On Saturday afternoon the Tlmaru Defence Rifle Club fired the fifth match of the season, the conditions were 10 shots at 500 and 800 yards. The day was fine and some good scores were registered. At 500 yards. M. Headly put on 48 and W. E. Jones and J. Hull each got 47, Hull counting Jones out. At 800 yards J. Green scored 49. Before the commencement of the 800 yards range the president, Mr W. Duncan mentioned that one of New Zealand’s marksmen, Rifleman F. Clarke of Ashburton had died during the week and a vote of sympathy was passed to the relatives. Rifleman J. Stevenson was still in hospital but was doing well. The match for the day was won by J. Green with 98, J. Hull secured second place and J. M. Smith third. The gold rifle was won by J. Green with 94. Scores:— 500 800 Hp Tl. J. Green 45 49 4 98 J. Hull 47 45 4 96 J. M. Smith 45 44 5 94 G.
