FOOTBALL CLUB HOLDS FUNCTION TROPHIES PRESENTED The Fairlie Football Club held a most successful smoke concert in the Aorangi Hall at which the cups, caps and shield were presented. The club had a very successful season, winning the Reilly senior championship cup, the C. J. Scott Cup between the winners and runners up and the William Scott junior championship cup. The senior team was also successful in winning the Burnett Memorial Shield played for annually between the premier teams in the Mackenzie and Waimate Sub-Unions. To the winners of this shield Buchanans Ltd. presented caps. There was a large attendance of representatives of the four clubs in the Sub-Union. Mr T. Knowles, president of the South Canterbury Rugby Union was also present, together with Messrs W. Cummings and A. B. Rowlands, members of the Union Mr A. P. Greenfield representing Messrs Buchanans Ltd. was also present. Mr F. Woods on behalf of the junior team, Mr Scott said he was greatly interested in the juniors and it was only by encouraging the juniors that a good senior team could be hoped for. He wished the team success in the future, but said he hoped to see teams from other clubs putting in a serious challenge next season. Mr Scott made special reference to the work of Messrs W. McNarry, W. L. Bourn and A. Cox in the interests of junior football, Mr Greenfield was then asked to present the caps. He expressed his pleasure at being present on such an occasion, and referred to the value his firm placed on good sport and sportsmen, and it was to encourage sport of all kind that trophies such as the caps being presented that night were offered.
