MOONSHINE
THE BLOWER OF BUBBLES Long, long ago, in the old half forgotten days, there lived a blower of bubbles, who was also a dreamer of dreams. In the bubbles he blew he saw all the dream§ and hopes and illusions of the world. One by one he strung them together, making beautiful stories of them, and as each story was completed, a bubble disappeared from the earth world. One day he blew a bubble in which “Moon” was written in golden lettering. He spent the whole of the spring over the story of this bubble, and during the composition of it the bubble fell in love with the cloud-king’s daughter, Echo. His story being completed, he flew up into the heavens to tell Echo of his love. When he had nearly reached her, the winds of heaven blew him from his course and imprisoned him in the land of Paradise. And there he stays until this day, on his way to Heaven and Echo; and at night, when he rides across the sky, glowing and golden with the love he bears Echo, (a love which she will never know), mortals marvel at his beauty, and say, “Look at the Moonshine.” (5 Marks and a Merit Card awarded to Joy Wooler, Christchurch.)
