Mrs H Sinclair-Thomson, Park Lane, returned yesterday from a short visit to Christchurch. Miss Joyce Edgar Jones. "Otiritiii," is the guest of Mrs H. S. Orbel), Oaraaru. Miss Gladys Connolly. Seadown Road. Washdyke. has returned from a visit to Christchurch. Mrs P. J. Smith, Temuka. and her sister, Miss Marion Hay. Wai-iti Road, who have been on a visit to Picton and Nelson returned home yesterday. Mr and Mrs R. P. Stewart of St. Kilda, Dunedin, are the guests of Miami Mrs W. A. Stewart, Markham Plats. Mrs Henry Reid. Dunedin, who is staying with her daughter, Mrs E Howden. Park Lane, will return home on Monday. Miss Dorothy Barron. “Ranui." Grey Road, who is the guest of Mrs C Ronaldson, Christchurch, will return home to-morrow. Miss Helen Scott arrived yesterday from Dunedin to spend a holiday with her mother, Mrs J. M. Scott, Seddon Street. Miss Joan Barker. Gisborne, who is the guest of her sister, Mrs Griffith Edgar Jones, Waiau, will arrive on Monday to stay with Mrs Edgar Jones. Otiritiri. Dr Ada McLaren, M. 8.. D.P.H . who has been in Great Britain and abroad for many .--years, will arrive in New Zealand ‘ next week by the Rangitane to spend the summer with relatives in Canterbury. Mrs J. A. S. Wait. St. Elmo Courts, Christchurch, who has been staying with Mrs Burdon. Woodbury, and with Mrs W. H. Hargreaves, Kakahu, is now the guest of Mrs J. R. Loughna-i, Fairlie. Cork bath mats without the wooden frame should not be stood up on end to dry, or the edges will crumble away in time. Leave them flat on the floor after the bath, and they will serve you well. His Excellency Lord Bledisloe at the Hutt flower show this week announced that her Excellency had given to the Hutt Horticultural Society a rose bowl for competition in the decorative class, Her Excellency then presented the bowl to the president (Mr D. S. Patrick), who thanked her Excellency for the handsome gift. Organdie has in the past made lovely evening frocks or delightfully cool summer blouses or even gloves, but a new use for it has been found in the organdie luncheon sets which are now on the market. The stiff yellow organdie mats with segments of red velvet applique round the edge and a wild rose design in pink velvet applique with the leaves and stems :n green are both uivusual. The backgrounds may be in blue, green or red organdie with the wild rose design appliqued in velvet of suitable shades Other attractive sets are of oatmeal linen crash. This a handloom linen woven by the Italian peasant, '1 Scattered flowers and sprigs of leaves are embroidered in wools of bright red, pink, or cornflower blue on the linen ground. One effective design is of cornflowers.
