Dr M. A. Falconer (Dunedin) and Mrs J. M. Burt (Fairlie) are registered at the Empire. Messrs H. King, M. A. Matthews, J. Howly and N. McKinley (Dunedin) are at the Dominion. Flying-Officer G. T. Jarman, son of a Lower Hutt resident, is engaged on a flight home from Khartoum, Africa, via India. The Minister of Lands (the Hon. E. A. Ransom), who has been indisposed for some weeks, will return to Wellington to-day. Messrs J. Quinn (Dunedin), R. Humphries (Auckland). L. A. Rothschild and J. Mandel (Wellington) are guests at the Grosvenor. The Timaru Band Contest General Committee at a meeting last night passed a motion of sympathy with Mr J. Palliser, a member of the committee in the death of his father. Notice of his transfer to Wanganui has been received by E. R. G. Steere. the well-known Hawke’s Bay footballer, who is a member of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand, being at present stationed in Napier. A British official wireless message from Rugby announces that General J. C. Smuts, Minister of Justice in the South African Cabinet left Croydon for South Africa yesterday afternoon, at the conclusion of his visit to England. The Rev. T. H. Roseveare, minister of St. John's Presbyterian Church, Papatoetoe, left by the Niagara this week for Suva, where he will occupy the pulpit of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church for three months, during the absence on leave of the Rev. D. McCosh. At thei: meeting last night, members of the Executive of the South Canterbury Automobile Association carried in silence a motion of condolence with Messrs J. Palliser and G. A. Bridges, both of whom had suffered bereavement through the death of their fathers. Gratification at the fact that Dr C. A. Paterson was making a good recovery from an operation, which he underwent recently, was expressed by members of the Executive of the South Canterbury Automobile Association at their meeting last night. The secretary was instructed to write wishing Dr Paterson a speedy return to health. An arrival from England by the lonic yesterday was Dr W. Traill Thomson. After leaving the Waitaki High School in 1898 he entered the Dunedin University, subsequently qualifying at King’s College Hospital, London. During the war he was a captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps and then practised at Leamington until about four years ago when ne sold his practice and went to live in Warwickshire. Dr Thomson left New Zealand in 1899 and has not been back since then. The New Zealand Ministerial delegation which is to carry out discussions mainly on trade questions with Commonwealth Ministers left Wellington for Australia by the Monowai last evening. The members of the delegation. which will be absent from New Zealand for about a month are the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates and Mrs Coates, the Hon. R. Masters M.L.C. and Mrs Masters. Dr G. Craig. Comptroller of Customs. Dr R. M. Campbell, private secretary to the Minister of Finance, and Miss H. D. Montague, personal secretary to the Minister of Finance.
